Alberta Wallet: Province Rolls Out Digital Health Card App

Global News reports that the Government of Alberta has launched the Alberta Wallet, a mobile app designed to provide faster and more secure access to provincial documents. The app is now live and available to residents through Alberta.ca, the province’s official website.

The first feature available in the Alberta Wallet is the ability to store a mobile health card. This digital version can be presented at hospitals and medical clinics instead of the paper card currently in use. To register, Albertans must have an active My Health Records account and a verified Alberta.ca account. The app is available to residents aged 14 and older, and it also allows parents to add their children’s health cards, as well as those of spouses or interdependent partners.

According to the province, the wallet is protected by strong encryption, ensuring that personal information remains private and accessible only to the user. Paper copies will continue to be accepted for those who prefer traditional options.

Provincial leaders say the Alberta Wallet is part of a broader effort to modernize services and adapt to what they call a “high-speed digital future.” The launch has been endorsed by the Alberta Medical Association, whose president called it a logical step forward. Officials also confirmed that the province plans to expand the wallet in the future to include additional documents such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, trades certifications, and school transcripts.

The Alberta Wallet rollout highlights the province’s strategy of shifting essential services toward secure, mobile-first solutions while still maintaining accessibility for all Albertans.
